Atlanta sign Greek striker from Celtic
Giorgos Giakoumakis joins Atlanta United in MLS
Atlanta United have signed Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis from Celtic for a fee of 2.5 million euros.
Giakoumakis, 26, has scored 26 goals in 56 appearances for Celtic since joining the club from VVV-Venlo in August 2021. He has also scored four goals in 10 appearances for the Greek national team.
The striker is a physical presence at 6ft 2in and is known for his aerial ability and powerful finishing. He is also a good passer and can create chances for others.
Giakoumakis is expected to make his Atlanta debut in the team's next match against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
The signing of Giakoumakis is a major coup for Atlanta United. He is a proven goalscorer at the highest level and will be a valuable addition to the team's attack.
Atlanta United are currently third in the Eastern Conference and will be hoping that Giakoumakis can help them to push for the MLS Cup.
