Rival Mountaineering Teams Caught in Deadly Blizzard

Teams Battled for the Summit When Disaster Struck

In 1996, two rival mountaineering teams set out to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest peak. The teams, one led by Rob Hall and the other by Scott Fischer, were determined to reach the summit before the end of the climbing season. However, tragedy struck when a blizzard hit the mountain, killing 13 climbers. The climbers were caught in high winds and snow, and many of them died of hypothermia or altitude sickness. The disaster was one of the deadliest in the history of Everest, and it cast a shadow over the sport of mountaineering.
